It's November!
Writers, you know what that means. NaNoWriMo time!
This month, Paul and I are going to do something a little crazy, a little brave, and—I hope—a little interesting. We're both doing NaNo, and we're going to share our adventure with you all by posting once a day about how it's going.
My own writing needs are what drove me to make BetaBooks in the first place, so during NaNo I'm going to scale back just a bit on *building* BetaBooks while I work on my own writing and *using* BetaBooks.
Likewise, Paul has mostly worked as an editor. He's never done NaNo before, and most of his writing has been for screen, stage, or business, so he's excited to take a plunge into the depths of writing fiction, and looking forward to all he'll learn along the way.[1]
And, of course, we'll be posting our stuff to BetaBooks, and at the end of the month we'll open it up any of you who want to read it and throw tomatoes at us :D.
I expect this will help give both of us fresh perspective about where the app is really working and where it needs improvement.
For folks who'd like to follow our story closely, we're making a new email list. Whereas current app users get an email update from us about once a week, we post on the blog more frequently than that. If you'd like to get our blog posts in your email (approximately once a day), just send an email to hello[at]betabooks[dot]co and let us know.[2]
We're looking forward to sharing all this with you guys. There'll probably be one or two more general announcements as we figure out some of the moving parts on this thing, and then we'll leave the rest of it on the blog and for people who opt-in to the new blog-feed email list.
Thanks everyone, and good luck with your writing this November!
Andrew
Footnotes:
1. Paul is psyched about writing, but he wanted me to note that also I insisted he had to do it and twisted his arm until he relented. ;)
2. I realize opting-in by sending an email is a little janky, sorry about that. We're still learning how to do proper email list management over here, and I haven't yet figured out the incantation that will let you just check a box to say if you want daily vs. weekly updates.
